A person whose into robot boxing, Charlie Kenton, starts off with a fight with his robot Ambush and he's facing Blackthunder the bull. In an attempt to win, Charlie fails and owes lots of money to Ricky. Then, he has to take care of an 11-year old called Max after his aunt has left for the summer. Max's uncle gives Charlie some money to buy a Japanese robot called Noisy Boy. Charlie takes Noisy Boy to fight Midas and fails again. But, when Charlie and Max go to the junkyard to clear the parts off of Noisy Boy, Max finds a robot called Atom after slipping off a cliff. However, when Max wins so many fights with Atom, he just might be able to defeat the king of the robots, Zeus. tomatometer 7,6 / 10 star

Real steel signs. Real steel film. Real steel noisy boy. Real steel hammer. Real steel bushcraft plus convex. There have a great many boxing movies done over the years: Rocky, my personal all-time favorite sports movie, Raging Bull, Million Dollar Baby and The Fighter, just to name a few. All of these movies were guided by well written characters and strong story lines. In Real Steel the special effects are abundant; however, the wonderfully developed characters and the storyline are what make the film more than just Rock 'Em Sock 'Em robots.
Director Shawn Levy has put together a quality resume of family films, including Cheaper by the Dozen starring Steve Martin and both of the Ben Stiller Night at the Museum films. In each of these films, the central character is the father; in Levy's Real Steel, things are no different. In the film, Hugh Jackman plays former professional boxer turned "trainer" Charlie Kenton. Jackman's portrayal of the "unlucky" Charlie feels real; he's an everyday man, who's made mistakes in his life and learns from them. Having starred in three X-Men movies and a solo film as the now iconic Wolverine, Jackman's good looks and action hero status have been front and center. However, it should be noted that Jackman is also a very talented actor. Dakota Goyo, who plays Charlie's estranged son Max, gives a very fine performance of his own. Max's stubbornness and determination, both traits inherited from Charlie, help in bringing the two together for a common goal. Evangeline Lilly, best known as Kate from the TV show Lost, plays gym owner Bailey. Although given a back story and history with Charlie, the character as a whole is underutilized. The interactions between Jackman and Goyo are at times funny, serious, and engaging, which make for great father and son cinema.
Having seen the film in IMAX, the movie was visually impressive. The action sequences stood out prominently on screen and during the boxing sequences, each landed punch was enhanced by the powerful theater surround sound. The robots in the film are "pretty cool" as my son put it a number of times. They are intimidating by their massive size, but incredible to watch in action. If technology ever advanced to the point that something like the WRB (World Robot Boxing) organization existed, society today would not be able to contain their excitement. Real Steel borrows quite a bit from Rocky; however it does so in a fashion that doesn't leave you feeling cheated or unsatisfied. Make no mistake, Real Steel stands on its own as a very enjoyable film. I anticipate we'll be seeing more of Atom and the WRB in the future. whether on screen or in real life.
